Josie...I was just leaving a condolence for another friend when I saw Bert's name. Please accept our deepest condolences. I wish I'd known; I'd have brought Dad over to the funeral home tonight. I am so sorry for your loss. Prayers to your family at this difficult time. If it finds you any comfort, he's in good company up there. Mom will show him the ropes.

We are very sad to hear of Herb's passing. I had enjoyed several ski trips to Europe with Herb and other GM retirees over the years and was always amazed by his enthusiasm and endurance, even as the years advanced on us all. My wife Helen just remarked that during my working years she had enjoyed dancing with Herb at the Christmas parties that were part of our lives in those days. He was a great dancer as she remembers! Herb was a good man. Kind and considerate to friends and strangers alike, I will remember him with fondness. Please accept our heartfelt condolences at this sad time.

To the Schmidt family. Though it has been many years, I was fortunate to work with Herb for several years, 1977-8 and 1983-5. Herb certainly had a mind for detail and could quickly make sense out of a complicated truck body drawing. I found his dedication to the task at hand to be a model for me to follow, as a younger guy back then.
I recall he also got a lot of joy from even simple things, like a euchre game. He was sharp as a tack, and you would hear the phrase "Ach du lieber" quite often while playing with him as he caught you off guard. I am glad to see he got to enjoy such a lengthy retirement.

Josie - Sorry to hear about Herb's passing.. As usual after the fact.
We had some GREAT ski trips in Europe and the West.
He showed us up many times even though he was 8+ years older than us all.
Know he will be skiing the HILLS UP ABOVE already.
Always looked forward to stopping in to see you at the cottage.
    Take care.
